The most obvious solution is often the last idea we consider.
You want rest and think there must be a mysterious solution. Perhaps you are anticipating extraordinary suggestions in this series. You’re hoping there will be a moment you read one of these posts and think, “Yes! This is what I have been missing!”
I hope I don’t disappoint you. My mind frequently tends to be overwhelmed, so I look for simple solutions. I resist complicated strategies for rest because they feel like too much.
Could it be that the simplest way to cultivate rest in our hearts is to just be still with our bodies?
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10
Be still. Cease striving. Stop trying so hard. Breathe.
- Know that He is God.
- Know that His purpose will be fulfilled.
- Know that you are not responsible for the outcome.
- Know that being is as important as doing.
- Know that He will be exalted.
We should remember this is just one small seed. Life will probably still be crazy when we step back into action. Being still for a few minutes will not solve all problems. Sitting will not relieve all stress.
But this simple seed is a giant step of faith.
Plant the seed. Be still. Allow God to work.
Today’s Seed of Rest
Just sit down and be still.
How long can you be still? No phone. No book. No list. No conversation.
Don’t ignore the kids if they have an urgent need. But can you be still for 5 minutes? Maybe at least 60 seconds? Be still for a moment and remember that God is still on His throne.
Take a deep breath and rest.

Great advice and I was just doing that before!
